# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It takes five minutes flat, which means you can actually impress people without spending your whole evening behind the bar.
  • The color alone gets compliments before anyone even tries it, which is the kind of small win that matters.
  • Black currant brings this sophisticated, slightly tart depth that makes it feel way more special than it actually is to make.
02 -
  • Warm gin tastes thin and spirity; cold gin tastes smooth and botanical—the temperature does half the work, so don't skip chilling your glass if you remember to do it.
  • Black currant syrup varies wildly between brands, so taste yours first and adjust the amount based on how intensely flavored it is.
03 -
  • If you can't find black currant syrup, crème de cassis works beautifully and adds a deeper, almost wine-like richness that feels more luxurious.
  • Taste your lime juice before adding it—sometimes store-bought limes are duds, and you'll want to adjust if yours seems weak or weirdly bitter.
